Our Literacy Cafe

We have been enjoying a range of reading and writing activities as part of our Literacy Reading Cafe. We spent time last term  getting acquainted with different activities (Daily 5) and learning to work quietly.  A calm classroom allows everyone to focus on their reading tasks and allows Mrs White to conference with students  and hear groups read. We are really proud of how smoothly and calmly this has been running.

Pen and Paper in Maths Today !

We have been working very hard with lots of problem solving questions, in our groups and with our learning buddies in Term 1, to improve the way we use addition and subtraction to solve problems. We have also worked very hard to learn our basic facts in add and sub as this helps our problem solving.
Thank you to the Mums and Dads who have helped us learn these for home work.
As a follow up, we are doing a pen and paper assessment. Some of us are also using equipment like the 100s boards to help if we need it.

Books, books, books!

Room 5 was part of a Kellogs and New World reading promotion last term. As a result we received a box full of books on Friday. There are some wonderful titles amongst them! Looking forward to having a great read next week.

Who is in the Driver's Seat

After a super holiday, we are back at School and excited about our learning! We are thinking about      " Who is in the Driver's Seat " when we are learning. Here is the display we are using to think about our learning goals.

We need to know what we are learning, the reason we are learning it. where we are at with the learning ( achievements), where we are going next ( next steps).

Holiday Reading Challenge

We hope that lots of Room 5 children will do the Holiday Reading Challenge. There are some great prizes and it is an excellent way to keep reading going over the holidays.

All you need to do is read most days over the holidays even just for ten minutes. Record the reading on the reading log and bring this back signed by Mum or Dad. Then you will go into the draw for some great prizes!

Let's get reading and have a happy and blessed Easter and holidays!

Energise - Learning about the best drink for our bodies.

Yesterday we had a visit today from Brendan from the Energise Programme. We really enjoyed working out which energy and other drinks had the most sugar. It was interesting to learn about what the best drinks are for us when playing sport.

Water came out top of the class !

Easter Cross

We have been working on this Easter Cross with Miss Taylor.
It is based on a verse from the Bible which says " In Christ, we though many form one body"
